Community guidelines

Last updated October 22, 2026

College Actually works because students share what college is really like. These rules keep it useful, fair and safe. Moderators enforce them, and anyone can report a review that breaks them.

Review places and experiences, not people

  • Write about dorms, classes, restaurants, organizations and campus life, not individual students. Don't name, describe or hint at a specific student, member, roommate, RA or employee.
  • Professors and instructors can be reviewed on their teaching only: the class, workload, communication, grading and organization. A moderator checks every professor review before it appears. Leave out their appearance, personal life, family, health and home, and don't make accusations of misconduct or crimes you can't back up; report those to the university instead.
  • Never rate anyone's looks, dating history, sexual behavior or desirability. The dating section is about the campus environment, never about individuals.

Keep personal information out

  • No phone numbers, addresses, room numbers, schedules, social media handles or photos of people.
  • Don't post private conversations or anything that could identify someone who didn't agree to it.

Be honest and fair

  • Review only what you experienced yourself. One review per place; you can edit it later.
  • Don't review something you have a stake in, like your own business, chapter or employer, or anything you were paid to review.
  • No coordinated campaigns to push a rating up or down. We look for these and remove them.
  • Describe concerns with facts (“the front door lock was broken all semester”), not labels or rumors (“this place is dangerous, avoid it”).

No harassment or hate

  • No threats, bullying, slurs, or attacks on people for who they are.
  • No sexual content involving anyone, and nothing that promotes illegal activity or underage drinking.

Greek life

Fraternity and sorority reviews can only be written by verified students. Each one is checked by a moderator before it appears. Reviews must be about the chapter as an organization: its social life, brotherhood or sisterhood, philanthropy and housing. Accusations against identifiable members aren't allowed. If you have a safety concern about a chapter, report it to the university or the authorities, which can investigate.

Honest negative experiences are welcome. Reviews describing hazing, assault, drugs or other serious allegations are looked at closely by a moderator before anything is published. Never rate or describe members' looks, wealth, dating or social status. An organization's official status comes only from Indiana University's published information, never from reviews. Saying you're a member is optional and isn't verified.

Bars and nightlife

Bar reviews can only be written by verified students. Review the atmosphere, crowd, prices and music, not the staff or other customers as individuals.

What happens when something breaks the rules

  • Use the Report button on any review. Reports are private.
  • Moderators can hide or remove reviews. Repeated or serious violations lead to suspension or a ban.
  • Posting anonymously hides your username from other people, but not from moderators. Anonymity is not a shield for breaking these rules.
  • Think we got a decision wrong, or need something removed urgently? Email collegeactuallysupport@gmail.com with a link to the review.

Safety comes first

College Actually isn't a place to report emergencies or crimes. If someone is in danger, call 911. Campus and local resources are better placed to help than a review.
