The B.S. in Biotechnology program equips students with a solid foundation in basic scientific principles, as well as specialized knowledge and skills in biotechnology techniques and applications. Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers in the biotechnology and related industries, such as the pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors, or to continue their education in graduate programs in biotechnology or related fields. The B.S. in Biotechnology also provides a strong foundation for advanced professional degrees and for careers in the life sciences.
The B.A. in Biotechnology focuses on preparing students for non-research-oriented careers in the life science industry, such as pharmaceutical sales, marketing, technical writing, or data specializations. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of various life science businesses. The major is frequently accompanied with major or minor degrees in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry to further enhance career opportunities.
The Accelerated B.S./M.S. in Biotechnology allows students to maximize research opportunities. Students interested in this 5-year undergraduate/graduate degree program must apply for admission after their sophomore year. Admitted B.S./M.S. students will be accepted into individual research laboratories to undertake independent research projects under the supervision of faculty members, advanced graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. First-year students should follow the degree plan for the Biotechnology B.S. and plan to discuss the B.S./M.S. degree option with their advisor.
