School of Public Health-Bloomington · B.S.
The School of Public Heath offers a major focused on nutritional principles of food and diet, along with science classes including medical nutrition therapy, food chemistry, and life cycle nutrition. This four-year undergraduate program allows students to obtain the knowledge needed to apply to supervised practice or apply to graduate school to become a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist. However, this is not the only career option that is available with this major. Other career possibilities include corporate wellness, sports nutrition, and food research and development. Education in this health field gives students a broad set of courses and promotes the wellbeing and health of individuals and communities. Dietitians interact with people, helping them make healthy food choices.
During the junior year, dietetics majors may choose to pursue the Accelerated Master’s Pathway in Dietetics to earn both BS and MS degrees from IU in five years instead of the usual six years.
If you are interested in a Dietetics major, take IUB’s Chemistry Placement Exam (CPE) online. The results of the CPE will determine your placement level for your initial IUB chemistry course. For more details on the CPE, contact the Department of Chemistry at (812) 855-2700.
