Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, & Design · B.S.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design allows students to learn to design physical environments through a multidisciplinary lens. The Interior Design Program at IU is certified by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and meets the eligibility requirements to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam). It focuses on state-of-the-art methods to prepare students to enter the field of interior design.
This program combines aesthetic qualities emphasized in traditional art programs with technological qualities associated with scientific disciplines. It involves creating compelling environments where people live and work and an interest in sustainability and ecological living, as well as the fine arts such as drawing, graphic design, sculpture, photography, or furniture building.
Students will gain a broad understanding of 3-dimensional design principles, space planning and the history of interior architecture, and furniture design. They will acquire skills with the latest design and documentation software, AutoCAD and Revit, to illustrate their concepts and solutions for projects concerning the whole spectrum of human activity.
A Windows/PC laptop with enhanced storage and memory is required for all Comprehensive Design students. Macintosh computers are not endorsed. See here on Eskenazi School website for detailed computer specifications. The PC laptop is needed when taking SOAD-D 264 Digital Architectural Drawing, typically spring semester of the first year or fall semester of the second year.
